Before you throw stones based off what the media says, you should read his explanation firsthand.
Furthermore, have you been down there and seen the mess? Or have you smelled the funk reaking from the area when they are digging down there?

Did you change your socks before you went down there? More than one kind of funk you know....

The comment about "an inclination to sue first and get the facts later"  came from the trial commissioner Frank Doheny.  But if we don't want to go by what the media says...  how about if we go to the www.700wlw.com website -- they aren't media are they?!?!?!?  and Eric Deters isn't one of their radio personalities is he?  Isn't that the same station that was sued for their "Big Juan" promotion?   Or brought us the bus the homeless to Mason promotion?  Face it, publicity, nicknames and law don't mix.   Ask Ken Lawson how his career is going.

No stones were thrown so don't get your panties in a bunch.  I've heard "the bulldog" on the radio enough to form my own opinion of him.

According to this mornings paper Eric Deters aka the bulldog is going to be suspended in KY for 181 days.  Part of the reasoning is his propensity to "sue first and check the facts later".  You have to wonder how much of what was told to those residents ( and you can spin anything ) is fact and how much was scare tactics to get them to file a lawsuit?  I feel bad for what those people are going through but in the end they'll win.  Either they win a lawsuit (not likely given who represents them) or you'll have a court affirmation that there is no risk to living there.  That should open the door to allow them to sell their homes if they really want to leave.

CAT,

I talked to a resident that lives down there a few days ago. After reading some of the EPA reports there is No Way I would let my kids/Grandkids play down there. I also walked behind the houses that are along the border of the dump with the resident, there are monitors and extraction wells EVERYWHERE. Its been proven in the EPA documents I read that there are cancerous gases escaping from the dump and into the homes.
They don't know day to day, what and how much of these gases are coming out of there. The gases follow the path of least resistance to escape into the air. Its not a risk I'm willing to take.

I'll ask someone that lives down there and get back to u.The City says its ok. But the city also lied to the residents and tried to convince them it was a tree stump buried back there causing all this LOL...   As for myself, I've read some of the documents and I'm shocked and concerned  enough  to NEVER let my children play down there again. Its not worth the potential risk to their health, be it big or small. Its not a risk Im willing to take.I'd never forgive myself if something happened to my kids as a result of bieng exposed to something at the park. Its just not worth it . I guess the choice is yours to make.

Without my having to drege through piles of documents, could someone tell me if it is SAFE FOR OUR CHILDREN TO PRACTICE/PLAY SPORTS at the LUDLOW PARK, which is part of the old landfill site.  This practice/play site is set up by St. Bernard Recreation Dept. & I am concerned for the health of our children.  I don't live on Bank St. but I am very concerned for our youth who are instructed to practice & play on this site.l Huh Help

As you can see in the link below,The EPA released this story to the media because of the Cities Failure to clean this up.Not the Residents.
-Those links below are only the tip of the Iceburg...

Andy you come off as a jerk in every thread you post on. Why would anyone want to talk to you or give you information? You clearly have your own one sided opinions on Everything that happens in this city. So why waste your time or ours discussing anything? Quit hijacking threads with your insulting one liners that are intended to stir the pot. Ask your questions to these residents or take a hike. But please stop with the condiscending remarks. It does not show you in a good light.

your comment was       "^thats the city page about the landfill. Based on the information presented there, it sounds like the Bank Ave. Residents are being hysterical."

doesn't  refer to state of hysteria...infers we are being hysterical....exactly like you said.  Stop back peddling on what you said...at least man up and admit what you really meant.  Go educate yourself.  Google St. Bernard Landfill or visit the EPA website.....most of it is there.  The testing results for inside our houses are not made public.  As far as everyone's health issues why in the hell would that be on the news?    Did it really happen?  What kind of sick f--- would make that stuff up!  You really are unbelievably insensitive! How could you go there?   UNBELEIVABLE!

When you ask a meaningful question that justifies a response pertaining to the situation I will provide an answer the best I can.

If I'm such an idiot, why do you keep telling me to google it? Give me a LINK.

Also, no, I still meant state of hysteria. I realize that it did not come across like that though.

Anyway, I'll be back.. I'm going to go use this "google" everyone keeps talking about.

[edit]All I'm seeing is..
http://www.wlwt.com/money/22804003/detail.html
and the city's page now comes in as the third page in the search? Am I doing something wrong?

double edit: I also see this http://www.wlwt.com/news/21146247/detail.html "City: Dangerous Gas In St. Bernard Not At Dangerous Levels"[/edit]

Also, I was asking about the medical conditions being in the news because, I figured if it were a problem you folks would be going to the news-media with it. Nothing solves a problem like having the media breathing down the city's neck. I was not implying you made these things up, and am slightly repulsed you think I'm that incapable of human-emotion.

Doesn't the city have a lawyer?  Why do they always have to hire a lawyer?

To all concerned parties. The facts are still coming in but what is known so far is      1. an ongoing problem of byproducts from the former ( solid waste landfill / waste disposal dump )  is leaching possible cancer causing  chemicals  off site onto private property ..     2. The E.P.A. says they can prove the problem is the cities fault.     3.The State Health Dept. can only say it's not unsafe levels at this time ( a snapshot look ) but they can not say it is safe either.   4.The problem is the city had knowledge 11 years ago and told no one.             5. The U.S. E.P.A. says they may be able to fix the problem but as of yet ( 1 year later still waiting ) nothing.     6. The lower numbers in the latest readings were to be expected since in summer /dry weather it vents easier to the atmosphere, hopefully the playfield air is safe for children!     7. Who cares what St. B. Andy says Huh       8. The city told all involved that they would make the people whole. Then they closed ranks, sent in the outside lawyers and haven't even been seen in the Bank St. area. Good Luck , and Patience is a virtue needed when dealing with  the  (  City/E.P.A./ Lawyers...)

I thought it was the residents that hired a lawyer and sued the city (which mean you and I and everyone else who lives here).  Why shouldn't the city get their own lawyer? Of course no one has been down to that area to talk with the residents - there is ongoing litigation.  It is the residents right to hire a lawyer - I'd probably do the same, but would not expect the people I'm suing to sit down and have a beer with me.
