Nahh Joe your the hypocrite, you talk about free trade as long as it's equal, it's ok, but that was my point clinton and your pals tried to screww the American people with the KYOTO accords because it penalised America while exempting China & India thankfully we had some republicans and democrats who had some integrity along with President Bush who put country first,it's also hypocritical for you to claim your pres. elect is a man of change when he has his greedy fingers right in the milldle of the financial crises by being the second greediest democrat behind Dodd on the list, and Lying threw his teeth about taking only government campaign funds, absolutely HYPOCRITICAL. I think that must be the oath the democrats take for office is the HYPOCRITE oath, not quite what the doctors take. I have faith in Americans who actually have faith, and as far as for being stronger as a country, is that the same strong as were were after clinton gutted the military by 55%, the one thing we can count on is the democrats screwing everything and everyone,it's what they have always done. I relish the opurtunity to point out the failures of obama and his team, just repaying all that respect and loyalty your mob payed our President and our country for the last 8 years, what goes around comes around.

Joe,

It goes further than fuel efficient cars. They (previously foreign automakers) have been able to keep unions out of the workplace, so their workers are paid what may consider significantly less than their counterparts in Detroit. Not that they are working for peanuts - hardly. I wonder, how many of those workers would be willing to keep their job and take what amounts to a $10/hr. pay cut (counting bennies) as opposed to losing their job completely. Take a vote in negotiations - 90 percent opposed. Take a vote after the company announces it is closing - 90 percent in favor.

BTW, I don't think it is fair to blame George for what is happening, any more than it is fair to blame the Democratic Congress. Both branches of the gov, along with the judicial branch who sided with groups like ACORN and mandated that housing be afforable, or more precisely, buyable for people who couldn't afford it are big culprits. In a true capitalist society, no one is going to make loans they don't think will be repaid. But a housing boom is great - dozens of industries and thousands of companies benefit while it lasts.

Mike I agree to a point, let them fail, Toyota and Honda are doing ok (because they invested in fuel efficient cars), but like you say I wouldn't want to be the one who has to make that decision. If they fail it could take a decade for the country to recover.

Nemesis you are so hypocritical, the Congress was controlled by the Republicans for all those years and could of fixed alot of what you say is wrong, they didn't and the American people have decided to let the Democrats try to run things for a while. Time will tell if they can do any good. Just knowing that you are soooo unhappy keeps me smiling, so keep the garbage coming I'm good at disposing of it! I feel your pain 8 years of Bush was almost unbearable. Hey the man isn't even President yet so your boy is still the problem and what a mess he is leaving behind. I choose to look ahead and have complete faith in our country that we will recover and be stronger than ever,to bad you don't feel the same. Never thought you would give up on your country!

Yes free trade is fine if the American people are protected or the same rules apply to China and others that apply to us.
If that be so, then why did the democrats revile as President Bush's fault, that the KYOTO Accords  failed to be ratified. after all the American people where not accorded equal protection, and that China and India were exempted, it would have been a huge unfair advantage to everyone else but us. Fact is the KYOTO Accords were signed by Clinton,it was congress that refused to ratify in the best interest of the American people.

Part 2Obama having reaped thousands from Fannie Mae and Freddie Macaside, since the government take over, attention has focused on three democrats with close ties to Obama who served as Fannie Mae Executives; Franklin Raines former Clinton administration budget director, who is currently serving as Obama advisor on housing policy. James Johnson former aide to democratic V.P. Walter Mondale, was appointed to head Obama's V.P. selection committee, had to step down amid controversy over $7 million in real estate loans he recieved fromCountryWide Financial. Jamie Gorelick former Clinton administration deputy attorney general, rumored to be a possible attorney general cabinet appointment in an Obama administration, all three of these men raked in millions of dollars from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, here is a little breakdown Johnson raked in 21 million in just his last year as Fannie Mae CEO from 1991-1998. Raines raked in 90 million in his five years as Fannie Mae CEO, from 1999- 2004; Gorelick raked in 26 million serving as Vice Chair of Fannie Mae from 1998-2003, all three of these men have been involved in mortgage related Financial Scandals, looks to me likeMORE OF SAME, examples of continueing same old kinds of democrats from the past continueing into the future, you all elected at best the Fox to Guard the HenHouse, at worst? given all his questionable associations and his background, where is the Messiah's demonstratedChange, where is the Inspiration.

Ladies and Gentlemen we know for a fact that John McCainin 2005 pressed for regulatory reform of Fannie Mae and Freddie Macthis bill was brought up for a vote and passed in theHouse. It was never brought up for a vote in the Senate because the Democrats opposed any regulatory CHANGEof Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Democratscomprised 57% of recipients from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac funds. Obama was the Second Highest Recipient of 126,349.00 in campaign contributions, including PAC'sand individuals, since being elected to the Senate in 2004. John McCain didn't avail himself of any of these funds, while trying on several occasions to get regulatory reform passed, sounds to me like good economic leadershipwhile Obama was dipping his greedy fingers. Looks to me like More of Same.

Joe,

Did you predict this: I hope and pray Obama, Nancy, Harry and all the other Congress Critters, administration animals of government goobers are 100 percent successful. I hope the coming years are as good or better than the best of Ronnie, Bill and George II.

I don't want to see the auto industry collapse but one needs to be realistic. Say they get $500 billion so they can pay their employees. What is gonna happen in six-eight months if they don't start producing cars consumers want at a price they can afford. Will they be another AIG, a company that is responsible for hundreds of thousands of jobs, a company that the US would have a hard time coping with if they fail, a company that taxpayers have already invested billions in that still is in a lot of trouble?

A guy told me an interesting story today. He had a great (probably a great-great uncle) that made a mint shoeing horses. He was very good at his trade, didn't charge customers that much and no one ever complained about a horse coming up lame or a horseshoe coming loose. But the uncle, even though he heard about this new thing called a "horseless carriage" paid no attention to it. Five years later he was out of business. (Fortunately, according to Rick, the guy didn't spend most of his money and lived comfortably the rest of his life.)

I wonder if the bailouts (besides adding what is becoming trillions of dollars that our children and grand-children will have to repay) is nothing more than sticking a Band-aid  on an arm that needs amputated. Does the government have a choice? It does, but I wouldn't relish making it.

Mike I don't claim to know much about our economic problems, but I do know that the banks didn't have to give out all those bad loans (they knew what they were doing), but like you say they were making money and just didn't care. I do know that with the economy being global now our banks cannot fail or the whole world will go down with us and that would be worse. As far as GM goes they employ or support more than 3 million jobs and impact towns big and small all around this country and cannot fail. Are the unions at fault too, hell yes. What too do? If you or I had the fix we would be millionares. We're all being screwed and both parties are to blame, in Obama I didn't see absolutely more of the same and HOPE he helps! Nemesis I can already predict your response so please save it, a little of your nonsense goes a long way.

Come on already! can't handle the truth, can't deal with the facts, fustrating isn't it, so attack the messenger, really I understand it's impossible to defend such a fraud like obama and his terrorist race hating friends, I try to empathise with your predicament but I can't find any republicans that ran for the presidency, who hate their country, government, flag, pledge, national anthem, and races of people, try as I might just can't find one to defend. As far as the corruption of our election system, one is too many and indicates there can be more, and no one knows how many illegal ballots were cast, and that should bother any fine upstanding American citizen of any political persuasion, corrupting our election process is the worst kind of terrorist attack against the people of the USA possible, who ever sought to compromise our elections needs to be hunted down, brought to justice like the low life criminal scum they are. When the maket crashes what wealth will be left to redistribute, obama's promises is causing everyone to bail out of the markets and run for cover, and really who can blame them,it's going to be a long painful ride down, but hey sit back relax give the man a chance, he's determined to pilot it down to a crash, but what better plan can there be, if you want toChangeto create a whole different system, not new just different, after all socialism and communism have been around for awhile.

Joe,

But the results of the election are not going away. The auto industry wants billions and billions of dollars so they can stay afloat. You know why they are failing now - payments to union members. There are two auto industries in the US - one based in Michigan (GM, Ford, Chrysler) and one based in the south (Toyota, BMW). One is unionized, the other isn't. Guess which one is failing.

Joe, where does this bailout stop? How many more billions of dollars can the government provide? Or better yet, how will your and my kids and grandkids be able to pay this back?

AIG spent all there handouts and want more. Why? Shouldn't companies that cannot provide a product consumers want at a price they are willing to pay fail? Do I have a right to open a store, called Grow Your Own Way, where I sell everything a person needs to raise a garden and preserve the produce and then if I don't have the right products, charge too much, don't stay open the hours I need to so I can serve customers, have a right to demand the government bails me out?

Saul Alinsky author and founder of modern Communist manifesto "Rules For Radicals"his associations, teachings, and book serves as the guideline for many in the democratic party today, an interesting aside is that his aforementioned book was dedicated to "Lucifer the first Radical".
Bill Ayers self admitted Terrorist and student of Saul Alinsky and close associate of Barack Hussein Obama and author of the book "Praire Fire" this mad bomber dedicated his book to "Sirhan Sirhan"the murderer of Bobby Kennedy, can any association be justified?.
Rev.Wright the spiritual guide of Obama, who spewed the hate and racism of black liberation theology for over twenty years with Obama in attendance, another hate filled association.
Louis Farakan a known association between Wright,Farakan, and Obama existed, what can we infer from this association with the Black Nation of Islam a black seperationist radical group?seems to be a pattern developing of being inspired and hanging with people who advocate hate and violence towards America, clear to me indeed, I see no love here, no goodwill to all especially towards white Americans, where is the inspiration? and where is it from? who in this list has given hope for our future and on what evidence is it based. I call it as I see it and these execrable individuals earned their labels, these people have dedicated their existance to spreading hate and destruction in America, I haven't built any bombs or killed anybody nor have I advocated violence, nor committed any racial hate or bias, yet some here seek to label me a hater, because I don't swallow their kool-aid and I am not afraid to call them what they are, and most of allI disagree with them and I am the ultimate in civillity. My christian conservative acquaintances and family know me to be middle of the road moderate, who suffers hypocrites not, on all sides of the political spectrum, it's just fact the left suffers from them most,Again I have no respect and never will have respect for anyone who refuses to show respect to and render honors to our flag and national anthem or pledge of allegiance to someone who said the flag, the pledge and national anthem were supporting a repressive government and were about violence and oppression, and many of the above list have said and written as much, I served in uniform, for anyone to be able to say and believe anything they want to, however it would be the height of hypocrisy on my part to support said person or persons who have uttered such blasphemy, for any public office let alone the presidency. parts 2 & 3 will follow if I get motivated enough,my heart and spirit aren't really in the mood, maybe I'll just sit back and wait for all this bounty to be heaped upon me from the government, as I am over fiftyfive and make less than 50,000 a year, Obama promised that I would not pay any  tax,I can't wait, gimmee, gimmee, gimmme, some more stimulus checks and bail out my credit cards that would be fair, but then again I guess it really depends on who decides what and how much is fair, hey soros don't need so much give me a fair share of his, and I would really like some fair shares from hollywood types and entertainers as well as a few sports stars, spread it around brothers, AMEN.

Joe,

I don't think anyone escapes blame about the housing mess. Look at all the plus sides: lenders made money, investors in the stock market - which includes everyone with a 401k plan made money, the lumber industry and all the associated businesses made money, contractors and laborers made money - it helped fuel the economy. Who wanted to kill this goose that was laying golden eggs? I think they all knew it was being artificially inseminated and that the sperm bank, so to speak would collapse, but no host wants to unplug the lights and turn off the music in the middle of a great party. Tell me anyone who would complain if their IRA grew at nine percent a year or take any steps to slow down that growth!

I'm not convinced a recession is bad. Just like a drought that weeds out the weak trees and vegetation that cannot survive based on their roots and resources, a recession does the same. I can recall, back in the late '70s or early '80s when the US auto market was being invaded by the Japs. The overseas company offered cars that would last for 150,000-200,000 miles without a problem, while GM's offerings died after 75,000 or less miles. GM, Ford, Chrysler - they all started building better cars.

I don't remember when  Charles Darwin espoused his theory about survival of the fittest, but it is true.

Oh well, time to enjoy my baked potato and meat loaf I have been cooking!
