In addition to the Recreation Center plans, Now the plans for the Hartwell School renovation are on the Hartwell web page.  There are two photos and they show the back of the school plans.  We are working with the architects to obtain more photos and floor plans.  The photos show the large new gym addition to the back of the school and the addition of a larger green space for playing and school sports practice field.
log onto www.hartwellohio.com the HIA would love to hear your feedback about both of these projects.

The William Still UGRR Foundation looks at Hartwell Armory Site to develop indoor baseball facility for area baseball/softball teams to train during off-season months.
Please tell me they will not be called the Red Hawks!

Here is a recent press release sent to me regarding the proposed Baseball/Softball program at the Armory:

 The William Still UGRR Foundation looks at Hartwell Armory Site to develop indoor baseball facility for area baseball/softball teams to train during off-season months.
 Cincinnati, OH, January 20, 2008:   The William Still Underground Railroad Foundation a non-profit organization has been named the preferred developer by the City of Cincinnati in a renovation project located at the abandoned Armory on Shadybrook Drive in Hartwell. The foundation?s mission includes youth development and it looks to transition the almost 24,000 square foot site into a centrally located MVP (Most Valuable Persons) Indoor Baseball/Softball Training Facility. This facility will be available for both boys and girls baseball and softball teams who currently have no indoor facility during off-season months.  There are three other similar facilities of this kind located in Pittsburgh, PA, Atlanta, GA and Compton, CA. The foundation has received letters of support from a number of organizations including the Cincinnati Reds Community Fund. The
facility hopes to serve at least 1000 youth within its first year from the ages of 6-17 and will also incorporate a math tutoring program as well as a
self-esteem/character building program in addition to professional baseball/softball instruction The plans for the proposed site includes an indoor
playing field, hitting and pitcher tunnels, weight room, multi-purpose meeting room, pro shop, and office space. The foundation is working with in conjunction with other entities to open the facility in late 2008.

Wow!  So many great things planned for Hartwell this year!  We had a great Hartwell Council meeting last night and a lot of people in attendance.  A presentation of the new Hartwell Recreation center was viewed by attendees and then the proposed MVP baseball/softball program took the floor.  THE MVP program is propsed to be based in the Hartewll Armory which is directly behind Krogers.  This program would be open to children in knothole programs and offer year round indoor training facilites.  Yes, an indoor baseball field!  This program will also offer math tutoring.  The residents of Hartwell were very receptive to this plan and offered their support.

For 2008...
Hartwell Elementary school--construction to start June 2008;
Hartwell Recreation Center--contruction to start after Labor Day 2008;
Hartwell Armory MVP prgram--construction to start late summer/fall 2008.

Three major projects for the neighborhood of Hartwell...All I can say is it is ABOUT TIME!
