The Hartwell Improvement Association will hold their yearly budget meeting at the January 16th HIA meeting at the Hartwell Recreation Center on the corner of Vine & Galbraith.  The NSP bidget, which is $7,000., can be voted on my all residents whether they are current HIA members or not.  The meeting begins at 7:30pm.

If you own a business in Hartwell and are a member of the Hartwell Improvement Association, you can now have your business listed. Go to www.hartwellohio.com and click on the Businesses Link on the left-hand side. Fill in the form (it works!) and your name will be added. If you are not a member, you can fill out the form and someone will contact you.

It's all free (well except for dues) from the Hartwell Improvement Association.

Hominy...thanks for sharing.  I would have to say that our memberships have picked up and the Association is getting a lot acomplished.  I appreciate those who come to monthly meetings but I also respect the fact that many others cannot attend due to other obligations.  They try to get themselves as informed as possible about things going on in the community.  I still believe that our biggest battle is the large amount of rentals that we have in our community and those people thinking they cannot attend a HIA meeting.  I want everyone who lives in Hartwell to know about all the events we do and all the improvements that are happening.  I've want people to know that I, the president of the council, do not own a home in this community.  Does that stop me from trying to make it the best place in the city to live?? Heck no.  I will fight for this community for as long as I live here, I just want everyone to love Hartwell as much as I do..and more.  I think I need to get back to saying at the end of the HIA meetings, "see you next month...and bring a neighbor!"

It seems to me that only a dozen to dozen and a half people show up on regular basis.

Hats off to those souls who come to meetings....

It seems to me that only when something is biting people in their butts do they show up acting all outraged.  tickedoff  They demand someting be done yesterday.

Then the next time, their shadow does not mark the door.

So if Hartwell isn't what they want..... they made it that way.

htwlady,

Welcome. I've been trying to find out how to enable spell checking. One of these days, maybe I'll get it right.

P.S. - Thanks for the Kudos!  smitten

Hello Everyone.  I have not been on as I was not smart enough to figure out how to do this. I don't know if anyone will see this.  I would like to thank the Valley Courier for all they do for the Valley.  I wish everyone in Hartwell would buy the Courier so they would find out what a great newspaper it is.

Thanks also to Mike for the web page and for helping Hartwell to get on line.  This is great!  Do you have a spell check?  I need someone to check my grammar and spelling.

Now to find out how to make this gooooooooooooo.

On October 18th the community supported the $7000. proposed budget for HIA!  I thank everyone for attending and sharing in the voting process.  Looks like we are getting a web page!

HJ Benken to the rescue AGAIN!  Well, when I went to pick up my daylilies and daffodils for planting on Make a Difference Day, Mr. Benken had a little surprise for this volunteers...AGAIN.  We were able to take as many mums as we could fit in our car.  Thank god I had my truck. I took 15 at 3pm and had them planted by 4:30pm.  Take a look around and enjoy!  Most are planted at the corner of Vine/Galbraith (Rec center and new welcome to Hartwell sign) and the others are planted by the new sign on Galbraith Road by our newly painted bridge...
THANKS BENKEN!!!  Your generous donations year round keep our neighborhood beautiful!

Dawn,

I like the fact there was an overwhelming response for the website, but why are not more Hartwell residents posting here in the meantime?

We had a premeeting tongiht with HIA council members to discuss our options for the 2006 NSP budget.  This is the "proposed" Budget that we will vote on at the October 18th HIA meeting. With the $7000 we proposed for:
Beautification:             $  2000.  ($1500 grass cutting & $500 plants, mulch and other items.)
Neighborhood Events:  $  2000. (Neighborhood events & gatherings)
Newsletter                 $  2000.  (Newsletter $ 1200 & $800 postage/printing)
Membership                $    500.  (Membership materials & new mailing list)
Citizens on Patrol         $   300.  (New Banner & other advertising info.)
Web Page                  $   200.  (Overwhelming response for a web page for Hartwell!!!)

This proposed budget was brought together with the help of suggestions filed at the Sept. HIA meeting.  Please attend the next HIA meeting to vote on this budget or offer your suggestions.  Once a majority vote is taken, the budget will be submitted.

I want to take this time to encourage all Hartwell Residents to attend the October 18th Hartwell Improvement Assoc Meeting.  We will be voting on how our 2006 budget will be spent.  Remember, we get $7000.00 from the city.  Last year the budget was spent on this:

Neighborhood Events:         $2000
Beautification/Grass cutting: $2500
Newsletter:                       $2000
Membership:                      $500
                               Total $7000

This year we will be presenting ideas for Citizens on Patrol, Neighbrhood Events, and a Web page for Hartwell.

This is your communities money.  You have a voice with your vote on what plan you like.  Changes will be made to the budget until a majority vote has been taken.  The meeting starts at 7:30pm at the Hartwell Rec Center.

I am learning myself so I am not sure how much information I can offer.  Most of the information is in the bylaws which I do not happen to have a copy of at this time.  Hopefully, those who have helped with this in the past will be able to step up and offer support.  The community of Hartwell was once very actively involved in this.  More recently, people from other communities have taken the responsibility of caring for our childrens teams.  My son goes to school in Finneytown (St. Vivian), so he participates in sports there and I haven't had him in any Hartwell sports.  I know that things were a little "hairy" this year with people leaving and only 3 people juggling the jobs of 10.  Those 3 people have had to take a lot of heat due to others leaving suddenly.  No matter what the parent/adult/coach/board member issues were...the children are the one's who are paying the price.  The Hartwell Improvement Assoc(HIA) will carefully monitor the activity of the Hartwell Athletic Assoc.(HAA) from here on out.  The HAA usually meets once a month, the 1st Friday of the month at 7pm at the Hartwell Recreation Center. This forum is open to anyone, Parents, Coaches, and neighborhood residents.  Help from our community is desperately needed!

Dawn,

Not sure how many Hartwell residents are lurking, but it might help to post the responsibilities, how often they meet, the sports involved, etc.  Help
