The "Brushettes" came by my neighbors garden...the Dukes on Kearney street last week to paint some beautiful areas of their garden.  The Dukes will have an open garden this Forth of July weekend (4th & 5th from 10a-4pm).  Even though John & Amy are animal lovers, this garden is not for puppy strolls so leave your pup behind...but come see the very popular Hartwell garden and enjoy a refreshment.  Hope to see you there!

Keep Cincinnati Beautiful is sending us more man power....cant wait to see how many people we have and what we get accomplished.  Come on Hartwell residents, I expect to see you there!  None of us should expect other people to come in from OUTSIDE the neighborhood to clean up our streets....we need to be out there working with them and showing them how much we appreciate their support!

Two neighborhood clean ups held this April!  Save the dates..we need your help!

Clean up Wayne, April 19th from 9a-12:30a.  Meet on the corner of Anthony Wayne & Hartwell Avenue.  Large dumpter provided to clean entire street from Woodbine to Millsdale.

Clean up Hartwell, April 26th from 9a-12:30p.  Meet at the Hartwell Recreation Center, corner of Vine & Galbraith for neighborhood wide clean up and planting/mulching of neighborhood islands and gardens.

We need plenty of volunteers to make these events a success!  My sons school has offered some volunteers, so those Moeller guys will be here to help...but the community needs to help their neighborhood as well!  I hope to see you there!  Check out the Hartwell web page for more information in the coming weeks.
THANKS!

Like I said, there are more good people than bad.  Families are moving into this neighorhood and buying these muli-family homes and remodeling them back to single family.  I have watched the tranformation from our street over the past 6 years.  Five houses on our street have gone from rental to owner occupied, including our own.  This is why Hartwell is changing on its own.  The drug dealers are in every neighborhood but I will say they dont stick around too long when they start getting reported to the police.  It's all about people caring for their neighborhood and wanting to live in a safe and beautiful place.  A lot of people are finding that in Hartwell and want to live here.  You can't tell that I'm the community council president and an little bias can you?  I love living here and I think all my neighbors did too.  Speaking of neighbors..log onto the Hartwell web page and take a look at my neighbors garden.  Talk about a beautiful place in Hartwell.  http://www.hartwellohio.com/page30.html  if that doesn't work www.hartwellohio.com and click on Hartwell and the drop box Garden.  Enjoy!

Always nice to read about neighborhoods taking care of such things themselves. Just don't get carried away and adopt the drug dealers that VC mentioned.  Evil

Thanks to the many residents who do help maintain Hartwell's green spaces.  There is Alan who cuts all our neighborhood gren spaces on Anthony Wayne, Galbraith and Vine Street.  Lois & her son and Mrs. Bachman who help weed the memorial garden on Avalon & Woodbine and the many residents who have adopted streets in Hartwell (Hartwell has the highest number of adopted streets in the City and won an award for that).  Thanks to HJ Benken for the donated flowers each year that allow us to plant for no cost.  More good people than bad people live in Hartwell and we are very lucky for that.  Changing the perception of our neighborhood is very important to many residents.  If people see litter, they will only throw more out.  If people keep things picked up and well maintained, others will follow.  Thank you to all the volunteers who help keep Hartwell pretty and moving in the right direction!!

Be Jealous, other communities! As probably the most neglected neighborhood of Cincinnati, residents don't think about city service workers to keep parks, traffic islands and other areas clean. I've seen neighbors mow property that is owned by the city or county (area around CC Highway by Anthony Wayne), pull weeds from gardens in traffic islands, walk up and down a street to pick up trash. Not just on Make a Difference or Clean-Up Cincinnati Day, but throughout the year.

Yes, there are a few areas that look like crap and mostly inhabited by drug dealers, but driving the streets on both sides of Galbraith Road shows property owners care - not just about their own property but community property also.

Good job!    toast  Thumbsup  Clap
