I'd rather them be doing that now than what they were wasting about a month ago.  That is what I question.  But I think they have enough resources and have funds already allocated for more.  I drove to St. B post office about 8am (cant remember exactly, I didnt have my coffee yet) all the streets were treated before that morning snow started so I think that helped a little.  But honestly there is nothing anything or person can do when the flakes are as big as they were and the amount of time it came down in this morning.  It was pretty though...

Dawn,

That's great, but I wonder - is the city spending resources now (that don't need to be spent) and then will be "burnt out" come February. I didn't get up very early, but when I looked out the window, cars or trucks driving down Avalon were leaving their tracks on asphalt. That seems to be the MO for Valley communities - do a great job on the early snowfalls and then come the end of the season, hope and pray the sun comes out strong and bright the next few day.

Adding on to the old post from last year but just wanted to let those Hartwellians know plow/salt trucks ARE in Hartwell.  Woodbine & Kearney have been done AGAIN in past 30 mins.

In the past 5 years that I have lived here, I have absolutely no complaints about the snow removal process.  I know the order of the streets that take priority and know that I have to wait.  I usually wait 24 hours and then call, and they have always come out within 3 hours of my call.  My complaint will always be with the cars on the streets rather than the plow trucks.

openwide,

I gotta be honest, I'm not sure spoiled is the correct adjective. Maybe easily pleased. I was on several of your residential streets at about 5 pm and while they were better than Hartwell's, they could not compare to Reading's. And I was on Reading's about three hours earlier. Reading's were not as good as Wyoming's.

Hartwell's could have been much, much worse. The city poured a bunch of salt/calcium on Avalon and other streets before the storm started. for the first 60-90 minutes, nothing accumulated. Had it not been for the pretreatments, I suspect we could have ice skated to the store.

Dawn,

The city did better this week than last one. They plowed Avalon Friday afternoon, when all that was left was snow and slush on the sides. Of course, they managed to create a nice pile in front of driveways. That's understandable - they can't pick up their plow every time they reach a driveway. But what was funny/sad/ironic/that will teach them not to shovel snow - after we went out and again cleaned the area in front of the driveway, shoveling the snow to an area where it would not affect any neighbors, a different truck came by and plowed it back into the driveway.

On a side note, my son hates to have to park in the driveway, as it means he has to get up early and move his car so we can get out. We convinced him it would be better for his car not to leave it on the street. "Do you really want salt and calcium thrown on your car? Man, will that cause it to rust sooner." He parked in the driveway!

When the City declares a City Emergency, please remove all autos from the street so road crews can do their jobs.  If your street has not been plowed, please call 591-6000.  They will explain to you that they need to get the main roads first and then the secondary streets then our residential streets.  Hartwell is the northern most neighborhood and I always call about 24 hours after a snow fall, I usually have a truck going down my street within 3 hours, everytime.  Be patient with the trucks, we are not in New York and we do not have the amount of trucks a large city would normally have because we do not get major storms very often.  I personally do not want to see plow trucks just sitting for a majority of the months just to supress the complaints of a few residents.

Check on any elderly that you know of and if someone needs medication and cannot get out.  Let's all look out for each other.
