Bertus Street Park

Appatently you do not live near the Park. I am about 50 feet from it and taking the hoops down has been a blessing. Now I can let my kids and their friends walk safely to Dairy Queen and not have to listen to the terrible launguage and constant taunting they received when the hoops were up. SO WHY DO YOU WANT THE HOOPS BACK UP AGAIN ? I also now spend quiet nights on my porch and have not had anything stolen lately either

Wonderful. I believe stricker enforcemnet may have been a better solution, but I respect your answers. We station a worker down at ross park all summer, why couldnt we do this at park place, hand out fines to those who use bad language, show everyone that if they come to play, they have to play by our rules. Once the city establishes that they arent going to mess with bad behavior, you can gradually ween the worker out until needed again. Why do we have to succumb to the problem, why cant we stand up and show we mean business.

Mr. Estep went to the Pricipal of St. Clement and she fully respected and understood what they are trying to do and why. I know that for a fact because I spoke to her about it. Also Mr. Estep has offered St.Clement Vine Street Park and the Pavillion complete with a key for their use during schools hours...

Coming from a person who did not like the pun on nationalities you surprise me. Who are we trying to keep out? "Those people" as the mayor has recently said. Sorry yuck, the city is going to have a hard time taking away the park, read the law, its spelled out clearly. you are going to have to do a little more research about this than just talking to Joe. Just what the city needs, another lawsuit that the city will loose.

Ron: You really should know what you are talking about before you spout off about Sections in the Ohio Handbook. Go talk to Joe Kempe who really knows what is going on ....Besides. What good is the park anyway. If we fix it up thne you know who comes back and our neighborhood looks like you know what.

After some discussions with some residents who wish to keep Bertus St. Park and listening to council it is clear they are going to move quick on developing the park.  So some of us are ( no names mentioned at this time) are advising people to go to council meetings and express your feelings on this matter.  We have asked quite a few people in the park area and they have not heard anything about this so I feel they are uninformed to what is taking place.  Section 35.08 of the Ohio handbook for parks does state that  the park can be used for development.  But it also states it can remain if it is used for a public purpose.  It also says that the city has to advertise it once a week for 4 weeks in the paper and then purchased by sealed bids.   there also is a way of filing a tempoary injunction to stop any foward progress until the matter is completely resolved.  So we do plan on doing that and we urge anybody else who feels this way to join in with us and stop this  senseless take over of one of our parks, when there are bigger issues to adress in this town.  A group of chidren accompanied by an adult  who have already started a petition will soon be expanded to more than one group knocking on your doors.  If you are against the park being developed please sign their petition and if you are not please keep your remarks to yourself and simply say you wish not to support this effort.  These are children and they want to protect an area where they play, and learn basic sport skills.  If you feel like you have to spout out some words not meant for their ears call me and I will listen and debate your issues.  I would be willing to wager most of us adults played in that park at one time or another our selves.
