Hi all, Thanks to Rob Kern for turning me on to this forum. I have not been able to attend CCL meetings recently, so this is a great way to share thoughts, ideas, concerns about the neighborhood....Here's what's on my mind today - I propose applying for neighborhood grant money to place waste containers (like the ones on Vine Street) along Seymour Avenue between Fairpark & Van Kirk, maybe all the way to the RR tracks. The containers would be attached to poles at intervals on both sides of the street. Yes, this is somewhat self-serving since I live on Seymour & I'm tired of picking up litter in front of my house, but the litter problem affects everyone in the neighborhood. It's the "broken window" syndrome. I'd really like to see people cited for littering & having to pay a fine, but that ain't likely to happen, so I'm proposing this approach.... Everyday, people coming from the UDF, students walking home from the bus stop, people waiting for the bus, people walking by, throw candy & junk food wrappers, cans, cups, cigarette butts, you name it, on my property & on my neighbors' property. I still have enough faith in my fellow humans to think that, if containers were provided, perhaps people would use them. Couldn't hurt to try, right? I know that Northside has had great success cleaning up Hamilton Avenue since placing permanent waste containers along the street. When I first moved to my house on Seymour, I put a garbage can at the end of my driveway (as did the former owner of the house) but the can was stolen.... so that's why I say the containers would have to be attached to poles....Well, that's my thought for today...Thoughts?
