[quote you will learn that those given speeding citations are generally for speeds in excess of 40 MPH.

And to think I drive 25, maybe 28 mph regardless.

Maybe the reason is those ticketed for going 30-35 pay the ticket and avoid court?

Those devices at the intersections in Evendale are part of a "signal pre-emption system".  The devices detect the sirens from emergency vehicles, changing the lights and giving those emergency vehicles the right away (green light).

Regarding the Reading PD on Reading Road...sit in court one day and you will learn that those given speeding citations are generally for speeds in excess of 40 MPH.

Ah, no wonder they didn't look that much like cameras, I wasn't sure.

Dogtown,

I believe they are traffic control devices, if you are talking about the cameras over almost every intersection in the village. They work a treat, not causing a light to change unless it needs to. The RR, Glendale-Milford Road intersection works better than any I've seen.

Oh, on a related note, I saw today that Evendale has installed what look like the dreaded traffic light cameras at some of the major intersections. How long those been there?

Should this also be mentioned in the Evendale section of the board, or wouldn't any of the locals see it there? Seems to be kinda quiet in that forumette..

Sounds like Elmwood Place, or Terrace Park. When in the latter community I actually set my cruise control right at 35mph, even though the truck doesn't seem to like it much!

Dawn,

Apples and oranges. I saw a car today, going about 50 down Hillsdale. He needs more than a ticket but I pray it will never be vehicular homicide. Reading feasts on an area that, by all rights, be at least a 35. Four-lane, state road, property set back more than 20 feet from the highway, plus being just south of the stretch of Evendale where everyone drives 40 or faster. I know to slow down, but bunches of people don't - they pay.

Send them guys over to Hartwell.  I'd love to shove some hefty fines to those who blow up and down our streets.

If you drive in Reading along Reading Road - you better have helium feet. The men in blue are armed with radar and they aren't afraid to use it.  I know they pulled at least three people over in north Reading in a hour's time, and I was gone for 40 minutes of that time! The Speed Limit is 25 MPH. The four-lane with lots of room on both sides looks like a 35-45 zone, but it isn't.
