The Friends of the Public Library of Cincinnati & Hamilton County need your help. The used books, CDs, videos, and sets for their upcoming book sales are mostly donations from avid readers in the area, which are then recycled and sold at the book sales. The next major sale is set for May 31-June 5 at the Main Library, 800 Vine Street, downtown.
Anne Keller, the Friends’ Executive Director, said now more than ever it’s important to get a good supply of books and other reading material for the sale. “This is our biggest sale under one roof,” she said. “There are literally tens of thousands of books, CDs, videos, sets, and more, with a great selection of children’s books and fiction and nonfiction. Our past two major sales have been so successful that we are appealing to the public to search their homes, attics and basements for items that we can resell.”
The January 2009 warehouse sale grossed $52,000, a 30% increase over 2008, while the sale held last summer at the Main Library grossed $83,000, a 40% increase over 2007. “I think the economy has a lot to do with the fact that people who

may have gone out and purchased a brand new book, CD or DVD, now think twice and shop the sales and get the same item at a fraction of the original cost,” continued Ms. Keller. “We have paperbacks starting at fifty cents, with CDs and DVDs priced at $3.00. “
Anyone who has items to donate can do so by dropping them off at the book barrels at the 40 branches and the Main Library, or at the Friends’ Warehouse, 8456 Vine Street (Hartwell).  For larger donations, call the Main Library Facilities Services Department at (513) 369-3171 to schedule a pick-up
