Prior to the Evendale Council meeting on Thursday, March 12, Mayor Don Apking took questions from the audience. A lady asked about the Village’s Master Plan and if it would address the non-conforming properties around Evendale. Some of her neighbors are in violation of code. Mayor Apking tried to answer her questions but did not have the answers. The matter will be looked into.

Mayor Apking reported that he has problems with people putting their garbage out early. They put their cans out on Saturday. If going out of town, have your neighbor put it out for you. The new garbage cans look nice, but look terrible out in front of the home. The Village intends to send out letters to offenders.

The other thing that upsets Mayor Apking is vehicles parked in yards. Vehicles are to be parked on a surface such as asphalt or concrete.

Doug Lohmeier noted the big items discussed at the Fire-Service-Recreation-Engineering and Gorman Heritage Farm Council Committee were the emergency planning (fuel tank and generators). The Recreation Center was also discussed.

J. Jeffrey Albrinck noted that in February the Village brought in $1.2 million in revenue and had $800,000 in expenses. Mr. Albrinck recognizes the impact all are facing financially. He had George Snyder speak with the different departments and had them scrutinize the budget. It may be cut as much as ten percent. Mr. Albrinck would like to see how lean they could get the budget.

Mr. Albrinck also noted that the police cruisers will be ordered by Police Chief Gary Foust. The Police Accreditation on site assessment will be finished by the end of the month. All are welcome to Council Chambers on March 30 at 7:00 pm to comment (good or bad) about the Police Department and hear the accreditation report.

Stiney Vonderhaar recognized the loss of residents William Clawson and Ron Groh. The Cultural Arts Center will have a special night on April 3 will have a Gala event at 6:00 pm. They will be open on April 4 and 5 as well. Mr. Vonderhaar announced that 49 students signed up for classes at the center. Earth Day Festival will be held in the Village on Saturday, April 25 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. It is a free event.

Mayor Apking announced that Gorman Heritage Farm would have their Shear Excitement program on April 4 and 5 at 10:00 am.

Council passed two ordinances before heading into a discussion about emergency preparedness in Evendale. There were meetings held to discuss how to handle a huge windstorm and power outage like happened last year. They looked into the cost of obtaining a fuel storage tank and generators. Mayor Apking felt that aesthetically the fuel tank should be placed near the salt bin. Mr. Lohmeier wanted to make sure that all avenues were exhausted before moving forward with the purchases. Officer Tim Holloway of the Police Department stated they looked at how much fuel each department would use. They can schedule gas deliveries to ensure a seven-day reserve. The fuel system can be purchased through the state. They would need five generators for emergencies. Council members felt that the Village should be prepared for another emergency, should it occur. Mayor Apking said that they would look further into the issue and report next month.
