Serving These Communities

Covering the Heart of Hamilton County Since 1983
First, we start with the mayoral candidates. Again, the articles are as submitted, with the exception of changing ALL CAPS, which the same as shouting, to lower case. Candidates were informed this would happen.

Qualifications for the Office of Mayor
Mayor, Village of Evendale – 1987 – 1999, 2004 – 2007; Member of Village of Evendale Council 1980 – 1987; Resident of Evendale 47 years; BS University of Cincinnati; Manager Procter and Gamble 36 years Retired; President – Ohio Mayor’s Association; Board Member Hamilton County Municipal League
If the residents of Evendale have enjoyed the last four years of Village prosperity,
growth and services and would like to see them continue by re-
Fiscal Responsibility – The Village is experiencing an excellent fiscal position now and for the future. I will continue to work with developers to insure the growth of our Village income. The properties purchased by the Village are our future as we continue to broaden our tax base.
Village Infrastructure – Our Village has the best program of street projects in Hamilton County. We are also working on traffic lights, street lighting and signage.
Village Services – Evendale excels in recreational programs and facilities, roads, grounds, maintenance and beautification, fire and police protection and administrative services with a staff of dedicated employees.
Resident Input – Living in Evendale also carries a responsibility. I will continue to communicate with all residents and businesses by telephone, electronically, person to person, Mayor’s newsletter, Council Meetings, committee meetings and by appointing interested residents to Committees and Boards.
Resources – I look forward to continuing a good relationship with Gorman Heritage Farm and The Griffin Family Nature Preserve working with their Committees to make these remarkable assets better and better. I look forward to working with The Boy Scouts of America as they are developing plans for building and moving to the Village.
The biggest challenge facing Evendale at this time is the Anchor Development Project on Glendale Milford and Reading Roads. During this critical time it is important that the Mayor concentrate on working with the Contractor to attract quality businesses to the Village.
During my 25+ years of leadership in Evendale I have tried to make decisions based on what is best for the Village. I will continue this practice and will do my very best to make sure that Evendale remains in the Top 25 Best Places to Live in the United States!
My name is Phil Schneider and I am asking for your vote for Mayor of the Village of Evendale, on Tues., Nov 6.
I am a life-
My wife Sandy and I have two children living in Evendale, Phil (wife Mary Carole) and their four children and Scott (wife Heather) and their two children. Our daughter Lisa lives in Symmes Township with her husband Jon and their two children.
When I made the decision to run for Mayor, many people asked “why” do you want to do this? The answer is simple. With the exception of the last 4 years, I have been very active in the community in one capacity or another, and I have decided that I want to resume my involvement. It is a great feeling to be able to devote time to help plan the future, and to aid in the progress of a community.
I have previously served on the Rec. Commission, the Planning Commission, the CIC and the Charter Review Committee. I also served on Council for twelve years, and was Pres. of Council for one term. I know how the Village operates and what it takes to be an effective elected official, one who can lead Council, and I believe that I have the qualifications and experience needed to serve the Village as Mayor.
My campaign platform is based on three principles:
1. Time for Change
We have had the same Mayor for 16 of the last 20 years. We all know that it is always good to have some level of change – and new eyes looking at a situation. We need to be looking for ways to improve how we do things – to keep pace with all the changes around us. We need to involve new people in our processes to infuse new ideas.
2. Professionalism
As your Mayor, I will work with Village dept. heads to implement processes to help us be more effective and efficient in delivering services to our residents and businesses. We can improve our processes so that we all know what the key objectives are, and measure our performance against these objectives.
3. Communications
In order to enhance communications within our Village, I plan to have each Dept. publish a brief summary once a quarter of key activities in their area.
How many times have you wondered how the last survey was analyzed? Any time the Village utilizes a survey for resident input, the results will be published.
Since the Mayor’s job is part time, resident’s personal access to the Mayor is limited. I plan to conduct periodic evening “Chat with the Mayor” sessions, to allow all residents and businesses to come and express their concerns, ask questions, and offer suggestions.
Since most people have email access, this avenue will always be open for business, and you can expect to receive a response.
There you have it. My vision for Evendale is that people are informed and feel that their opinions are valued. We obviously have a great community, one that has been recognized as a great place to live. How much better can we be if we find a way to tap the wealth of knowledge our residents possess? By keeping everyone informed, hopefully more people will come forward to offer their talents in the many areas of community service, including politics, we have available.

I appreciate your support and your vote.
Question:
The biggest challenge facing Evendale is attracting new businesses. We need to complete the analysis of the input submitted by the residents for the Master Plan. Once this is completed, I will explore additional avenues to entice companies to choose our community as the place for their future plans.
Moving on to the Village Council candidates. There are three to be elected. Bill Puthoff, Jr. did not return a call so we could send him the information.
Hello. My name is John Ranz and I am running for election to council in the Village of Evendale. My wife Jacquie, and our children John and Beth, have been blessed to live in Evendale now for over 20 years. We are truly lucky to live in such a wonderful community.
From 1997 through 2001, I had the privilege of serving the Village of Evendale as a member of Council – the last 2 years as Vice Mayor. As a member of Council, I served on the Community Improvement Corporation, the Fire Committee, the Service Committee, the Hiring Committee, the Administrative Committee, and the Recreation Commission. During my term on council, there were a number of significant accomplishments which I was proud to be a part of.
In January of 2000, the earnings tax was reduced by 10% from 1% to .9%.
At the same time, the Evendale portion of your property tax was reduced to zero.
In 2001 we began the renovation of the fitness center and broke ground on the Founders Pavilion.
In 2001, the decision was finally made to televise council meetings – a position I had advocated for a long time.
Looking to the future, there are many issues and challenges facing Evendale which I hope to address as a member of Council.
We need to pursue a reduction in the earnings tax to encourage economic development.
We need to work towards the re-
We need to explore the possibility of establishing a Village sponsored Transportation Program for our senior citizens.
We need to maintain our superior police and fire protection.
If elected, I promise you that I will again commit the time and energy necessary to do this job right. I will work for you – the residents of Evendale.
Vote for John Ranz on November 6. Leadership for Evendale, Experience for Evendale, Commitment for a better Evendale
Service to Evendale: 1979 to 1983 Planning Commission; 1983 to 1990 Councilmember; 1990 to 2002 Solicitor; 2003 to 2007 Councilmember
While I am a Councilmember I will continue the policies that led Business Week in 2006 to name Evendale as one of the top 25 Suburban Communities in the United States. Evendale has a balance of residential and business areas. The tax revenue from the businesses support services to both areas. Evendale maintains the lowest property tax rate in Hamilton County.
Evendale relies upon a single source for most of its tax revenue. Because of this fact, assumption of debt is unwise. A substantial unencumbered balance at the end of each fiscal year is necessary. The budgets I approved have increased services, cut debt in half, and held operating expenses in check. The unencumbered balance has not gone below the amount approved as part of the 2004 budget (passed 2003).
I am running for re-

Evendale resident for 23 years

There is still work that needs to be done if Evendale is to remain a top community to live, work, and play. In 2006 Evendale was selected as a Top 25 Suburb in the nation. I believe Evendale received this honor because Evendale provides outstanding services to residents and businesses while providing opportunities where businesses can prosper. I supported these economic opportunities and will continue to seek specific business opportunities for Evendale and continue partnering with existing developers to complete current projects. We need to diversify Evendale’s tax base so that we are less dependent on the economic stability of only a few businesses in the community.
As your Council Member, I am committed to maintaining the quality of life that we
all value greatly. We must also continue to improve our services as we provide new
ones. Soon residents will have the opportunity to enjoy the newly proposed cultural
arts program. I will continue to provide responsible fiscal management, create a
climate where potential home buyers and businesses will want to locate, and participate
in hiring and retaining high-
It has been my pleasure to serve Evendale during these last four years and would appreciate your vote in November.
