Stiney Vonderhaar ran the Special Council meeting in Evendale as Mayor of Council Pro Tem on Thursday, January 11. Council passed a special resolution regarding the grievance of Officers Tim Holloway and Jeff McDaniel. The special meeting was then closed.
Mayor Don Apking was present (and explained he was sorry to miss the previous meeting) for the start of the regular Evendale Council meeting. Council passed the Consent Calendar before giving reports.
Chris Schaefer reported that their Committee discussed street signs. There is money in the budget for them. They spoke about the signs with Public Works Department. The Committee also talked about having a former City of Cincinnati architect look at different signs and make a recommendation. Mr. Schaefer asked Council if they would like to purchase the signs already looked at or have the expert (the architect) give an opinion. Jack Cameron said the person could lay out different scenarios and show off different designs of signs to show how they would work with each other. This would cost $6,000 to $8,000 to get the architect’s opinion. This man did the Gateway signs for Cincinnati explained Mayor Apking. He could show different ideas. Mr. Schaefer reminded everyone that the poles for the signs would need concrete bases. He suggested that they be built about an inch wider and raised up to make the lawn mowing easier. Doug Lohmeier said it feels wrong to pay out such an amount for a consultant for street signs. Mayor Apking stated he wants the right look for Evendale so it will look even more special. The consultant can get three different sign and get the proposed costs. J. Jeffrey Albrinck said that the sign decision was put off until after the study was through. The last signs were to last ten years. He suggested that more research be done to get the best option for the Village.
Mr. Albrinck reported that the Village did have a better year. They encumbered $330,000 to the positive. The various department heads came in $1 million under budget. He thanked all the department heads for their great job. Mayor Apking expressed his thanks to George and all for keeping such a close eye on the budget. This Village doesn’t just spend money because it is in the budget. He also mentioned how fortunate Evendale is to have the businesses they have.
Mayor Apking announced that they will do the streets of Otterbein, LeMark Trail and Spartan this year.
Council passed the motion to table five ordinances: approving (or denying) an amendment to a portion of the final plat of the subdivision for Evendale Commons Business Park; approving (or denying) an amendment to the Planned Business Development Overlay District for Evendale Commons Business Park; and approving Water Management and Sedimentation Control Plans for Mr. Clean Car Wash and authorizing Building Commissioner to issue permit.
Council and Administration set up a meeting for Proctor and Gamble to come to discuss the proposed car wash for January 30 after Committee of Council meeting at 8:00 pm. They will discuss the whole idea along with Anchor and everyone.
Council passed eight ordinances: amending a prior ordinance relating to new employees’ health insurance (they now will pay for a portion of it); to allow the Mayor to hire part-time employees and set pay rates; to make appointments to various boards and commissions of the Village; to sell the 1995 Horton Ambulance to Village of Elmwood Place; to approve additional appropriations in various funds; amend certain fringe benefit provisions of the codified ordinances; provide for certain salary adjustments in the Service Department; authorize the Mayor to hire part-time employee and set pay rate.
They also passed two resolutions: to appoint police officers to the position of Police Specialist for 2007 and appoint firefighter or firefighter/paramedic to the position of Fire Specialist for 2007.
Mr. Vonderhaar reminded all of Princeton School’s Community Officials Night held this weekend. Mayor Apking announced that Princeton City Schools’ Community Input Sessions is scheduled for January 23 at Evendale Elementary. Jack Cameron asked if Council wanted to go into Phase II for the Marketing and Development plan and all of Council voted no. With that, the meeting adjourned.
