The St. Bernard Council held their Committee of Council meeting on Thursday, July
26. One of those who spoke before Council was Kim Fender of the Hamilton County Library.
St. Bernard is on the top of the list for new construction, if all goes well they
may be able to start building a new library in about a year. After much discussion
it was decided that the city would consult with who is hired as the future economic
developer (which was done in Executive Session) and he agreed we should wait the

John Goedde and Jennifer Vedder of JMA spoke about ideas to fund the Vine Street Streetscape. They would like to see a committee formed to provide a concept and determine costs for landscaping, benches and more.
Gerry Weidmann read an application he received from Andrea Queale who is a resident and wants to open up a Farmer's Insurance Agency at 4734 Vine St. (formerly occupied by XLG Temporary Services"). Council voted to grant the conditional Use Permit.
Council went into executive session at the end of the meeting to discuss hiring Al Kanters as St. Bernard’s new Economic Developer. He was recommended by Dr. Romanos to help start revitalizing St. Bernard, to implement the study ideas and bring in new residents and businesses.
Council was impressed and now the CIC will interview Al since one of his main jobs would be as the Executive Director of the CIC. He recommended ideas such as a community gateway, a housing project, a newsletter, getting a local business association started again and more.

Service Director Joe Kempe reported that he would like a new line item in the budget for park maintenance. The city needs to put in a retaining wall at a property located at the Vine St. Park/Church area where the yard is slipping down and also to fix up the fields and do some work on the Ross Park bathroom. Mr. Kempe asked for a transfer of $10,000 and said he may have to come back to council to ask for additional funding.
Mr. Kempe also reported that he received the bids back for the Evrrun/Advance and Vine Street road repair. The water works has decided to join along with the Errun/Advance project and put in new water lines so the city will have to pay for the water work portion, but will get that money back.
Patty Hausfeld reported that the Laws, Contracts and and Claims committee met to discuss writing a drug policy for the city since it had been placed in her committee. At the meeting there was disagreement with the administration saying it did not have to be negotiated into the employees’ contracts. The committee decided that since this is a policy and not law this is the job of the administration to do.
Steve Asbach reported that he talked to Mr. Miller about the Bertus Street Park design and that Mr. Miller hopes to have the final drawings from Jeff Allen before next week’s council meeting.
In his Business and Industry Committee report, Mike Schildmeyer stated that his committee met with Jeff Harris (owner) and Terry Fallon regarding the St. Bernard Square. He thought the meeting went very well and that his committee will meet again next Thursday at 6:30 PM to discuss the meeting.
Peggy Brickweg passed on information about two properties that she had received complaints on: Baxter's, located at the end of Chalet for the dead plants and weeds. The second was St. Bernard Storage fvor junk, animals and trash on the lot. She also reported that she was working with Jonathan on getting "Slow, Children Playing" signs up on Imwalle, which were requested by some residents.
Greg Zix asked Mr. Stuchell if he again would look into either speed bumps or a stop sign for up on Zetta. A child was hit by car and was injured.
