The Village of Evendale held their Council meeting on Thursday, July 12. A lady spoke about the Village’s maps. She said that they are not correct. She was also upset about an apron put in a drive nearby. The lady was assured that the apron was legal and that they will look into the maps and the legality issues that she brought up.
J. Jeffrey Albrinck spoke briefly about the 2008 Budget at the Public Hearing. He noted that the Real Estate Taxes was set at zero as it is done each year. With that the public hearing was closed.
Mayor Don Apking opened the public hearing regarding the Mayor’s appeal of the ZBA’s
decision of 1375-
Tom Lippert presented a limited edition (#52) of a picture that his grandfather painted of Fountain Square in 1929. The painting will be on display in the Adult Services Gather Room. Mr. Lippert noted that the original is in the Cincinnati Art Museum. When the picture was painted, Carew Tower was not yet built.
Mayor Don Apking gave his report. The talk centered around turning the Civic Building into a Cultural Arts Center. It will cost about $45,000 without the HVAC that is needed. As of now the asbestos is not a concern. They may not have to worry about ADA concerns since it is a historic building. They will put in a ramp for the handicap to access the first level. Some programs cannot be offered at the Recreation Center like painting with acrylic paints. It affects the breathing of children. Most of Council wanted to find out more before committing the Civil Building for this endeavor. Mayor Apking promised to provide more information and to take Council on a tour of the building to see what is planned.
J. Jeffrey Albrinck reported that the finances for midway through the year is positive $8,000.
Doug Lohmeier announced that the Fourth of July was a success. The rain held off to allow a nice event. The Northern Suburban Swim Tournaments will be held at the Recreation Center July 23 and 24.
Mayor Apking remarked that after speaking with representatives of Erickson (the Landmark property developer) he feels that it is best to hire a professional to do an economic impact study to see what effect (positive and negative) that the development would have on the Village. The cost would be $22,000. Those on Council who spoke, agreed with the decision. Linda Fitzgerald said the person that was recommended by Hamilton County Development Company, is very highly regarded in his field.
Stiney Vonderhaar wished Chris Schaefer’s wife speedy recovery.
There was a first reading for the ordinances to enter into a contract with TEC engineering
for the improvement at Route 42 and Glendale-
At the end of the meeting, Stiney Vonderhaar reminded everyone of St. Rita’s Festival and the upcoming Civil War encampment at Gorman Farm on July 21 and 22. John H. Morgan is rumored to be there on Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm and on both Saturday and Sunday they will steal the horses at 2:30 pm. After going into an executive session to discuss property acquisition, Council adjourned.
